Discover Careers that Make an Impact

A paramedic is more than just the highest certified medical attendant on an ambulance. A paramedic is a leader and problem solver, who plays a crucial role in emergency medical situations. As a paramedic-in-training, you'll take courses alongside learners in your cohort to learn precisely how to respond to medical emergencies and administer life-saving care. You'll receive training in advanced airway management, medication administration, EKG interpretation, as well as in other essential areas of advanced life support to address the needs of patients. The didactic, lab, and clinical portions of the program are designed to prepare you to pass both the National Registry Paramedic cognitive and psychomotor exams.

Unlike many other institutions, York Technical College prepares you to practice your skills in a variety of clinical settings, even outside of an ambulance. As you work through your required courses, you'll gain hands-on experience, putting theory to practice with real patients in hospital clinical rotations. To ensure that you're fully prepared to begin working after you complete the program, you'll serve 180 Capstone hours on an ambulance as a team leader. This means that by the time you receive your certificate, you'll not only have an impressive resume under your belt, but the real-world experience to work in emergency and non-emergency services, hospital emergency rooms, fire departments, and on-air medical teams.
