York Technical College Mourns the Passing of Former Board Chair Bruce Anthony Vaughan
York Technical College mourns the loss of former Commission Chair Bruce Anthony Vaughan,
affectionately known as Tony, who passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026,
at 92.
Mr. Vaughan dedicated 39 years to the York Technical College Commission, including 11 years as Board Chair. His leadership and steady guidance contributed to the college's growth and broadened educational opportunities in the region. He also served as a member and former President of the South Carolina Association for Technical College Commissioners, advocating for technical education statewide.
“Tony's unwavering dedication to education and public service has left a profound impact on our community and the college," stated York Technical College President, Dr. Stacey Moore. “His consistent leadership, integrity, and passion for students have made a lasting impression on York Technical College, and his absence will be deeply felt."
Born on June 17, 1933, in Union, South Carolina, Mr. Vaughan earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University. He had a notable career in the textile and printing industries, working 20 years as Plant Engineer at Rock Hill Printing & Finishing and later retiring as Engineering Manager of the Finishing Division at Cone Mills.
Mr. Vaughan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Libby Vaughan, as well as his brother and sister. He is survived by his daughter, Luanne Vaughan Gatlin (John); his son, Brian A. Vaughan (Marco); and five grandchildren: Michael Gatlin (Kristin Potter), Hannah Gatlin (Tae Joon Kim), Harris Vaughan (Emily), Sam Gatlin, and Caroline Vaughan.
Visitation will be held at Woodland United Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m., with services following at 11:00 a.m. on February 20, 2026. Memorial donations can be made to Woodland United Methodist Church or Providence Hospice.
Mr. Vaughan’s legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to education will continue to influence York Technical College and the community he faithfully served.
