Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) is a college leadership program that prepares students to become leaders in their careers, in the military, or in the civilian workforce.

While attending York Technical College, you can take ROTC classes through Winthrop University and gain:

The program does not require military commitment at the start.

Real-World Experience

You’ll gain hands-on leadership training from experienced:

• Army Officers
• Non-Commissioned Officers

You will not be required to join the army. Early ROTC courses allow you to explore the program first.

A military commitment occurs later in the program if you decide to pursue commissioning and accept certain scholarships or contracts. 

You may be eligible if you are:

• A new Fall freshman at York Technical College
• Enrolled full-time (12 credit hours or more)
• Interested in leadership and personal growth

No prior military experience is required.

ROTC classes take place at the following times: 

• Tuesday: 8:00 a.m. to 8:50 a.m.
• Wednesday: 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Early morning option on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:50 a.m.

Students would enroll in:

• MLSC 101 / 101L – Introduction to Army Leadership
• MLSC 5000 – Leadership Lab

Classes are taught at Winthrop University by Army ROTC instructors and designed to fit alongside your York Tech schedule.

Not necessarily. ROTC courses can apply toward your degree path such as:

• Associate in Arts
• Associate in Science
• AAS in Management

Many students complete ROTC while graduating on time.

Students who continue in the ROTC program may have the opportunity to:

• Commission as a U.S. Army Officer
• Serve on Active Duty
• Join the Army National Guard
• Serve in the Army Reserve

Even students who choose not to commission will graduate with strong leadership credentials valued by employers.

Yes. Many South Carolina universities offer Army ROTC programs, including:

• Clemson University
• University of South Carolina
• The Citadel
• Coastal Carolina University
• College of Charleston
• Winthrop University

Step 1 — Apply to York Technical College

• Submit your application through the Apply webpage.

Step 2 — Meet with Admissions

• Let the admissions team know you're interested in Army ROTC. You can schedule a time to meet with them by emailing enrollmentservices@yorktech.edu.

Step 3 — Register for Classes

• Enroll in at least 12 credit hours and include:
• MLSC 101 / 101L – Introduction to Army Leadership
• MLSC 5000 – Leadership Lab

Step 4 — Complete the Consortium Form

• Submit the Greater Charlotte Consortium application.

Step 5 — Confirm Registration

• The York Tech Registrar will verify your enrollment.
