Put Your Skills to the Test with Work-Based Learning

A number of our programs have work-based learning opportunities built into the curricula to ensure that you're getting the most out of your college experience. However, regardless of whether your program requires a work-based learning component, we encourage you to tap into the hands-on, immersive educational experiences that work-based learning can provide.

Work-based learning is split into two categories: internships and apprenticeships. While both types of programs are an excellent way to help you translate theory into practice and connect with future employers, the benefits of either type of work-based learning will depend on your individual goals. Learn more about internships and apprenticeships to discover which option best fits your needs.

Internships are short-term experiences intended to help you gain valuable insight into your future industry, taking place at the employer's site. Through your role as an intern, you'll get a first-hand look at the day-to-day tasks and culture within your employer's company. You'll have the opportunity to network and build mentorships with your colleagues, allowing you to get your foot in the door even before graduating from your program. With the real-world experience you gain from your internship, you'll build a solid resume that makes you stand out as a marketable candidate for future roles and sets you up for success building a career after you've graduated from college.

Apprenticeships are long-term experiences intended to lead to full-time employment. Much like internships, apprenticeships allow you to establish professional bonds and mentorships with experts in your future field while participating in a contextual learning experience. However, apprenticeships provide you with a paid, outlined educational and mentored opportunity. In addition to the experience you will gain, participants receive a nationally recognized credential from the Department of Labor upon completion of the apprenticeship program.
