Utility Line Worker
The Utility Line Worker Certificate is designed to prepare graduates for entry level jobs in the electrical industry and telecommunications infrastructure. Admission Criteria
- High school diploma or equivalent
- High school GPA of 3.0 or Accuplacer minimum scores
(Arithmetic >=90, Reading 57, Sentence Skills >=50)
Program Requirements
- No aversion to heights and following directions from individuals on the ground (potentially looking down from heights up to 40 feet to receive instruction)
- Ability to climb 40 feet in the air
- Ability to support up to 80 additional pounds while working suspended
- Maximum total body weight of 300 pounds (including tool belt)
Additional Requirements for Advanced Utility Line Worker
- Successful completion (2.0 or higher) of Utility Line Worker Certificate OR equivalent
- Meet the following requirements as specified by SC Department of Motor Vehicles
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be able to read and speak the English language
- Must tour the facility (Wilson Street) before registering for the course
- Hold a valid SC Commercial Learner’s Permit
- Pass the Department of Transportation physical examination (which must be obtained prior to start of the Program)
- Provide a current 10-year state motor vehicle record of driving history (MVR)
All students must submit to a drug screen once they have acquired their CDL permit. Any student that has acquired their CDL permit prior to starting a class must submit to a drug test prior to starting the class. The student will be responsible for the cost of the drug screen. Any student who fails the drug screen or fails to provide drug screen results will be removed from the class and reported to the SCDMV. Student may re-enter the program at a later date if all State and Federal requirements are met.
