It is important
that the Special Resources Office (SRO) receives clear and accurate information
from instructors in order to provide reasonable accommodations involving
special test administration. Such accommodations
provide the student with a disability equal opportunity to obtain the same
level of achievement as other students while the college maintains its standards
of excellence. The SRO offers the
following guidelines to ensure the best results for both instructors and
qualifying students:
1. One (1) Authorization to Administer
Testing form MUST accompany each
test to be administered by the SRO. Tests
will NOT be administered without an accompanying authorization form. The forms may be photocopied or may be
accessed in electronic format through Outlook (Public Folders / Shared
Files / Special Resources). Tests and authorization
forms are welcomed (in fact, preferred) to be delivered to the SRO electronically. Electronic delivery of tests is especially
important when alternate formatting is required (aural administration, Braille,
etc.).
2. The authorization form is the
instructor’s control over the test. Instructors
should have received a Faculty Notification Form from the
student within the first two (2) weeks of class supporting and verifying the
request for accommodations.
3. Students MUST schedule tests with the SRO
at least three (3) working days prior to the day the test is to be taken.
4. Students are EXPECTED to give ample
notice to instructors for each test
so that instructors are reminded to send an authorization form and test to the
SRO, ensuring tests are available and ready to administer. (NOTE:
The SRO needs to receive tests requiring alternate formatting at least
two (2) working days prior to the day the test is to be taken.)
5. Students may not schedule more than one
test per form, nor may they schedule an entire semester’s tests at one time. “Blanket” authorization forms submitted by
instructors may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.
6. The SRO EXPECTS that tests are scheduled
to be taken at the same time the class meets.
Exceptions are tests for evening classes or if special permission is
received by the instructor prior to the administration of the
test. (NOTE: The instructor may choose to penalize a test
grade if it is determined that the student scheduled the test at a different
time from the class without the instructor’s knowledge and/or permission.)
7. Testing should be scheduled with the SRO so
that it can be completed by 5:30 p.m. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case
basis.
8. If instructors have any questions as to
the validity of accommodation requested by a student with a disability, please
contact the SRO.
Our job is to ensure
that tests administered in the SRO are conducted within parameters prescribed.
Thank you for accommodating us!
