Stephen Turner, Director of Rock Hill Economic and Urban Development, presented facts and figures about how small business is affecting our local economy.Economic development success is most often associated with a the announcement of a major relocation or expansion by a very large business enterprise (think Boeing, Google, BMW). So, it's not a surprise that most communities focus on attraction of businesses and jobs from outside as their primary economic development strategy. But, is this the best strategy for creating new jobs? This presentation will examine the role of small businesses in job creation locally, regionally and nationally, and question whether current economic development strategies are targeted appropriately.

More than 30 small businesses exhibited and sold their goods and services on Tuesday evening, May 25, 2010, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Baxter Hood Center. Approximately 150 people visited the exhibits and enjoyed the informative sessions provided by Larry Stevens, Jim Bullock, Kerry Mast and Mark Moreno.

The Entrepreneur Network event on May 19, 2009, was a Small Business Expo where small businesses from the service area had an opportunity to exhibit their services and products and get feedback on their marketing materials from the public attendees as well as a group of marketing professionals.
