Admission and Registration Procedures for
Distance Learning Students

We are pleased that you are considering York Technical College. Our goal for you as a distance learning participant is the same as for all students -- a quality education at an affordable cost. Listed below are some steps that will assist you in the process of becoming a student at York Technical College and registering for distance learning courses.

We hope that you enjoy gaining college credits at a location which is more convenient for you. However, at times, it may be necessary for you to visit our main campus for specific services.

Step 1. APPLICATION

Complete an application for admission. Applications are available from the Admissions Office or call 327-8008 or 1-800-922-TECH to have an application mailed to you or access our on-line application at www.yorktech.com.

Submit your completed application  to:

Admissions Office
York Technical College
452 S Anderson Road
Rock Hill SC 29730

Step 2. PLACEMENT TESTING

If your goal is to complete a degree, diploma or certificate program or if you wish to take courses which require reading, math or English prerequisites, you may need to take one of the Tech placement tests. If you have SAT or ACT scores or you have earned college credits, the placement test may not be necessary. Contact Admissions to determine whether you need to take the placement test. If the placement test is necessary, you will be given several testing options.  There is a $10 non-refundable fee before you take the placement test.

Step 3. ADMISSION TO THE COLLEGE

After submitting your application and taking the placement test, if necessary, you are now ready to speak with an Admissions Counselor and be accepted to the College and admitted into a program (major). To do this, call the Admissions Office and ask to speak with a Counselor. Please identify yourself as a Distance Learning student. At this time, the Counselor will let you know what, if any, additional information is required to process your acceptance. In addition, your counselor will provide you with information about the different financial aid opportunities available to you.

Step 4. ORIENTATION AND ADVISING

After being accepted to the College, an acceptance letter will be mailed to you. Read this letter carefully. It will contain instructions on how to contact your advisor for assistance in scheduling.

In addition, you will need to participate in an orientation session in order to learn more about your program of study and receive special information about being a distance learning student.

If you are taking a telecourse: you are required to attend an orientation prior to beginning your class. Orientation dates are listed in the Student Class Schedule and your class schedule print-out.

If you are taking a teleclass: you will receive an orientation on the first day of class.

If you are taking an online course: you will receive a letter in the mail from your instructor giving you directions on how to access your class. There will be an orientation to the software, WebCT, on your class homepage.

Step 5. REGISTRATION

Call the Registration Hotline at 327-8002 or 1-800-768-4636. Have your social security number, course code and section number of the course(s) you plan to take ready when you call. There is a $10 registration fee.

Step 6. PAYMENT OF FEES
