Chester Center of York Technical College Construction Update

CHESTER—Construction of the Chester Center of York Technical College is approximately 90 percent complete and is on schedule for York Tech to begin moving furniture and equipment in sometime in November.

The facility will have 3 classrooms with distance learning (live two-way audio/video) capability with a total capacity of 80 students, three traditional classrooms with a total capacity of 108 students, and shops for Electricity/Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, and Welding.

Classes will begin at the new Center on January 7, with registration beginning on November 10. New Students are urged to complete the application process and file for financial aid now by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Assistance with registration and financial aid is available at the current York Tech Chester Center at 127 Saluda Street.

The new Center will offer associate degrees in Business with majors in Management and Administrative Office Technology and an associate degree in Industrial Technology with a major in Industrial Maintenance Technology as well as diplomas in Industrial Technology with majors in Industrial Maintenance Technology, Industrial Electricity/Electronics, and Welding.

Certificates will be offered in Early Childhood Development, Medical Assisting, General Studies, University Studies, Customer Service, Data Entry, Office Applications, Legal Office, Medical Office, Transcription, Basic Electricity, Motors and Controls, Programmable Controllers, Basic Welding, and MIG TIG and Pipe Welding.

Continuing Education courses in Nursing Assistant, Advanced Skilled Nursing Assistant, EKG Technician, Basic Phlebotomy, Medication Technician, Basic EMT, CPR, and Early Childhood Education will also be available. Scholarships may be available for students enrolled in medical programs.

To get community input regarding the new Center, the college has planned focus groups during October at the following locations:

• Chester High School (cafeteria): October 6, 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and October 9, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

• Great Falls High School (chorus room): October 13, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

• Lewisville High School (media room): October 16, 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

• West Chester Community Center (Old West Chester School): October 20, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
