Press Conference to Announce Opening
of Chester Workforce
and Learning Success Center
July 31, 2009
CHESTER—At a press conference on
Monday, August 3, York Technical College will
announce the opening of the Chester Workforce and
Learning Success Center in Chester. The event will
begin at 10 a.m. at the York Technical College
Saluda Street Center (127 Saluda St., Chester).
Rep. John Spratt will be on hand to describe the
importance of the new Center and the federal
government’s support.
The Chester Workforce and Learning Success Center,
which will be housed within the Saluda Street
facility, will provide career assessment and
essential work skills training for those who are
currently unemployed as well as adult education
students, high school students and current York Tech
students. Instruction will include a significant
"learning to learn" component for individuals and
small groups that will help them become better
learners.
The Center is being launched at a critical time for
Chester County, which currently has an unemployment
rate of more than 20 percent, third highest in the
state.
The new Workforce and Learning Success Center is
made possible by the generous support of community
partners like BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Chester
County Council, Chester County Economic Development,
S.C. Department of Commerce, Chester County School
District, Catawba Workforce Investment Board,
Chester One Stop and Chester County Adult Education.
Headquartered in Columbia, S.C., BlueCross BlueShield of South
Carolina (www.SouthCarolinaBlues.com)
is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield
Association.
