ROCK HILL—York Technical
College is currently hosting the Metal Masters Summer Camp to
expose kids ages 12 to 16 to the skills needed for success in
manufacturing careers. Twenty-five students from York, Chester
and Lancaster counties are participating in the week-long day
camp, which runs through Friday.
The camp will give students a real-world look
at manufacturing operations both on campus and by way of a field
trip to a local manufacturer. Students will have the opportunity
to make their own multi-part mechanism—which they can take home
with them—using both manual equipment and CNC (computer
numerical controlled) machines. They are also being introduced
to CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided
manufacturing) software.
Metal Masters Summer Camp is sponsored by the
Foundation of the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association
International and the John Ratzenberger NBTMA Foundation.
