ROCK HILL—On
Tuesday, June 10, the Entrepreneur Network will continue its series of
events aimed at helping small business owners and would-be entrepreneurs
succeed with a panel discussion of the legal issues surrounding starting
and operating a business. The event will be held at the Baxter Hood
Center on the campus of York Technical College beginning at 5:45 p.m.
Participants will engage in networking activities intended to help them
meet others facing similar challenges. Then they will hear from a panel
of local attorneys on various issues related to small businesses: Rock
Hill tax attorney and Winthrop University professor Bob Breakfield will
address tax issues. Don Harper of Harper & Rogers in Rock Hill will talk
about the different ways of structuring a business, as well as licenses
and permits. Alston DeVenny of Folks, Khoury & DeVenny in Lancaster will
address premises liability and tort liability and insurance coverage.
After the attorneys shares their top three bits of advice with the
group, the panel will take questions. Attendees are encouraged to come
prepared with questions related to any of these areas:
• Taxes
• Corporations, Partnerships and Limited Liability Companies
• Contracts
• Licensing & Permits
• Insurance
The Entrepreneur Network was established to bring entrepreneurs together
to network and support one another and engage in educational
opportunities. York Technical College has hosted two other Entrepreneur
Network events since November. The events are free and open to anyone
starting or running a small business, as well as those considering the
possibility of starting a business. The six area Chambers of Commerce
and several business networking groups have been active in spreading the
word about these opportunities.
