Commencement Exercises for the York Tech Class of
2008 to be Held May 13
ROCK HILL—York Technical College
will hold its commencement exercises for the class of 2008 on Tuesday,
May 13. The ceremony will take place at Winthrop University Coliseum beginning at 7 p.m.
This year, the college will
present
691 academic awards. Of those, 370 are candidates for
associate degrees and 109 are candidates for diplomas. An additional
212
candidates will receive certificates for completing programs that are less
than one year in length.

Also at the ceremony, the
college will recognize the late Tommy Davis as this year's Distinguished
Alumnus.
Davis, a graduate of York Technical College, served in the U.S. Army in
both Vietnam and Korea. Upon returning to his hometown of Chester, he
went to work for Springs Industries—working his way from the factory
floor to the front office as personnel manager. He later held similar
positions at other companies in the Southeast. From 1990 until 2006, he
was the employee relations manager for F. Schumacher & Co. in Richburg.
Davis was a humble man with a warm smile who had many friends and a
loving family. He believed in giving back to the community he loved. He
served as a trustee of Lincolnville Baptist Church as well as a
volunteer and board member for a number of local organizations,
including the Chester Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, the
Chester County Voter Registration Board, the American Cancer Society’s
Relay for Life program, the Catawba Workforce Investment Board, and the
York Technical College Foundation Board.
