Mark's Story
by
Martha B. Macdonald

Mark Talford’s travels include going from home to work and from work to school or from home to school.  A native of Lancaster, Mark is a student at York Technical College where he enjoys the Industrial Maintenance Program.  “My main concentration is welding, and I love the fact that I will have a career where I can help weld bridges,” Mark says.

He also knows how to do wiring and to work on machinery.  After finishing high school, Mark, like many others, had to make some choices.  “I wanted to make something of myself,” he smiles, “not just bum around.”  His father and two sisters went to college, and his mother, father, and friends always encouraged him.  “I am truly grateful to all of them.”

“My classes are hard, but they’re worth it,” Mark continues, his eyes serious.  At nineteen, he goes to school and has two jobs.  He works full time at ZF- LEMFORDER and part-time at DIVERSCO.  Between classes and jobs, Mark enjoys video games, hanging out with friends, and sleeping.  “But,” he chuckles, “work is something of a hobby, too, I guess, because I just love what I do.”
